The Friendship and the Aunt's Problem
Jumman Sheikh and Algu Chaudhri are best friends who trust each other so much that when one travels, the other looks after his home. Jumman's old aunt owns some property. She transfers it to Jumman on the condition that he will look after her for the rest of her life. At first Jumman treats her well, but after some time his wife begins to treat the aunt badly. The aunt is given very little food and is made to feel unwelcome. She asks Jumman for a monthly allowance so she can arrange her own meals, but he refuses.
The Panchayat and Algu's Judgment
The aunt decides to take her case to the village panchayat. She chooses Algu Chaudhri as the head panch because she trusts him to be fair. Jumman is confident that his best friend Algu will decide in his favour. However, Algu thinks carefully and gives a just decision: either Jumman must pay his aunt a monthly allowance, or the property transfer will be cancelled and returned to the aunt. Jumman is shocked and angry. He feels betrayed by his friend and decides to take revenge when he gets the chance.
Algu's Dispute and Jumman's Revenge Plan
Some time later, Algu sells one of his bullocks to Samjhu Sahu. The bullock works very hard and soon dies. Samjhu Sahu refuses to pay for the bullock, saying it was already old and weak when he bought it. Algu takes his case to the panchayat. Jumman is chosen as the head panch. Algu is worried because he knows Jumman is still angry with him. He fears Jumman will give an unfair judgment to take revenge. Jumman, however, remembers the responsibility of the panch's seat.
Fair Judgment and Friendship Restored
Jumman realises that the seat of the panch is sacred and a judge must be fair regardless of personal feelings. He gives a just decision in favour of Algu, ordering Samjhu Sahu to pay for the bullock. Algu is surprised and deeply moved. He understands that Algu's earlier judgment against Jumman was also fair and honest. The two friends are reconciled. Their friendship becomes even stronger because it is now built on mutual respect and the shared value of fairness. The story ends on a happy and hopeful note.
